Westminster Tool Celebrates 20 Years

From our humble beginnings to our growing success today, Westminster Tool has plenty to celebrate. To showcase the unique culture that shapes our company, we want to invite and honor the companies and customers who have helped us to succeed to our 20th anniversary celebration and customer appreciation event.

20 years ago, Ray Coombs, Westminster Tool’s founder and president, moved the company out of his basement and into their first 9,000 foot facility. With a team of six employees, they began building complete injection mold systems.

This two-day event begins on Tuesday, October 1, with a customer appreciation dinner and Scotch, Wine & Cigar tasting, and will conclude with an educational event on Wednesday, October 2, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In our spirit of continuous learning and improvement, the day will focus on topics which have been critical to our company culture and manufacturing process development.

* A block of rooms at the Plainfield La Quinta has been reserved at a discounted rate

Session Summaries:

  1. Defining Quality Plans  During Design Phase: We have all felt the pain of missing a tolerance at the 11th hour during a project. As part of our commitment to a proactive partnership, Westminster Tool has been implementing ways to address and mitigate these risks as early as the design phase to reduce cost and impact to the timeline. One of the key elements of our process is establishing a quality plan before kicking a job into manufacturing. This quality plan allows us to align details such as methodology, fixture and gauge requirements, and high-risk tolerances well in advance so we are set up for part qualification the moment the molded parts are ready.

  1. Benefits of Using DISC in the Workplace: The foundation of our company culture, emotional intelligence, requires self-awareness to be able to recognize strengths, shortcomings, and improve communication with others. At Westminster Tool, we use DISC, a behavior assessment tool based on a personality profile test comprised of 28-word groupings. Participants identify the words in each group, which they resonate with the most or least. Ultimately providing a comprehensive profile based on four behavioral groups. In this session, learn the foundations of DISC and how it has improved our company culture and communication.

  1. Using Moldex3D Analysis for Risk Mitigation: As part of our thorough design for manufacturing and risk mitigation processes, Westminster Tool uses Moldex3D to predict filling behavior, venting requirements and other potential challenges. This analysis is put in place to understand and plan for the risks that might arise during mold trials that could impact the budget and timeline. Hear more about specific cases where this tool has saved thousands of dollars in mold modifications by exposing us to challenges before they impacted the success of the project.

  1. Westminster Tool’s Talent Development System: During a nationwide workforce shortage, Westminster Tool continues to attract the right people, while giving employees the tools to improve the proficiency of self and develop their careers within the organization. Westminster Tool has transformed its workforce from a group of inexperienced enthusiastic employees into a high-performing team with an average age of under 35. This seminar will focus on becoming an employer of choice, developing a strong foundation and retaining talent with actionable insights for attendees to improve upon their talent development approach.
