Name: Daryl Jackson
Position: Production Lead
Age: 43
Education: QVCC Advanced Manufacturing Certificate
Years at WT: 4
Q1: What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
Camping, boating, and coaching soccer & baseball.
Q2: What accomplishment are you most proud of?
The success of my three children
Q3: Who inspires you?
My Father. That man works harder than anyone I know. Whether it be at work, as a Volunteer Fireman, or any of the other countless things he volunteers for he definitely inspires me.
Q3: What was your first job? What did you learn from it?
My first job was pumping gas at Sysco’s Exxon. I made $5 plus tips. I think I learned a lot. Especially as a kid working for tips you learn customer service, how to keep customers happy by addressing their needs, how to multi-task when there are multiple customers wanting the same service, and generally how to deal with the public.
Q4: What brought you to WT?
When I was laid off from the Casino after 20 years, I was searching for a new career that would provide for my family. I had started researching manufacturing and decided to take a two week exploratory course at Q.V.C.C. After the first week we took a field trip to visit a couple of businesses and when we toured Westminster Tool, I knew this was the place that I wanted to work at. The tour, the facility and especially the people changed any preconceptions I had of manufacturing.
Q5: What is something you enjoy about working at Westminster Tool?
I enjoy the employee empowerment here at Westminster Tool. I worked 20 years in the Casino Industry where everyone is micromanaged so it is very refreshing to be given a task and left to finish it without the constant direction.
